POSITION SUMMARY

This position enhances the teammate experience and HSS's mission through supporting the Tactical Training Program: TASER, firearms, handcuffing, and use of force training. This position focuses on supporting the Denver Metro market, as well as markets outside of Denver Metro and Colorado as needed. As a member of the Talent and Culture team, this position is responsible for supporting the processes and procedures to maintain compliance with HSS internal required Tactical/Use of Force Training. This position will ensure the sustainability and scalability of the HSS Tactical Program and support sites in proactively monitoring training compliance and scheduling.

In partnership with the Lead, Tactical Training & Quality; business unit leadership; Internal Trainers, & Compliance Administrator; the Tactical Training Instructor is responsible for providing logistical support for the proactive planning and delivery of required TASER, firearms, handcuffing, and any other use of force training and certifications.

This position must have a strong customer service orientation and be effective at communicating with employees, leaders, and working across departmental lines. This position operates in a strong team-based environment where collaboration is critical for fulfilling the needs of the business, and also relies heavily on individual execution and delivery. This position is also reliant on critical thinking abilities and will require the employee to be adaptable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal HSS Training & Quality Support(50% of time):

  • Serves as point of contact for TASER, firearms, handcuffing, and use of force training.
  • Prepares and provides Tactical/Use of Force Training Programs as a key part of the HSS internal instructor Cadre.
  • Partners with Lead, Tactical Training & Quality to serve as a certified trainer for Tactical Training Programs as needed to maintain classroom capacity to ensure compliance across HSS.
  • Delivers Tactical/Use of Force training to HSS internal teammates as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Delivers Tactical/Use of Force programs to HSS internal teammates as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Exercise discretion and utilize professional experience to determine areas of risk to the organization.
  • Exercise discretion and utilize professional experience, as well as evaluation sheets and rubrics, when fairly analyzing and assessing student proficiency.
  • Identifies system or process improvements that increase efficiency, effectiveness, & compliance.
  • Follows procedures, standards, and expectations for planning and tracking of Tactical/Use of Force training.
  • Partners with Lead, Tactical Training & Quality, business unit leadership, and Internal Trainers to provide site audit activities as needed.
  • Partners with Lead, Tactical Training & Quality, business unit leadership, and Internal Trainers to assist with use of force investigations as needed.

Training Reporting, Coordination & Logistics (50% of time):
  • Partners with the Lead, Tactical Training & Quality, Training Compliance Coordinator, and LMS Analyst to support the use of the LMS as an Enterprise system of record for Tactical Training and training schedules.
  • Serves as point of contact for training scheduling and logistics within assigned market and other areas as needed.
  • Ensures accurate and efficient documentation of Tactical Training programs.
  • Monitors training status to ensure compliance with HSS and HSS customer policies.
  • Schedules full certification training for new HSS officers/leaders.
  • Provides monthly/quarterly results assessments of training productivity.
  • Maintains contact with HSS certified trainers to assist them with administrative and instructional support as needed.
  • Develops training schedules and coordinates training resources.
  • Provides program support to officers and trainers as needed following delivery of initial training.
  • Works with Lead, Tactical Training & Quality and internal instructor Cadre to ensure procurement of necessary training inventory, as well as various duty equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline inventory costs and improve processes.
  • Responsible for assisting the maintenance of TASER inventory in both the Field and Corporate Office to include TASER Devices, targets, etc.
  • Delivers recertification activities in alignment with HSS and customer policies.
  • Collaborates with HSS instructor cadre to schedule and deliver regular intervals of training to HSS officers.
  • Works with stakeholders to ensure compliance by administering various schedules, paperwork, and communications.
  • Identifies system or process improvements that increase efficiency, effectiveness, & compliance.
  • Establishes procedures, standards, and expectations for planning and tracking of Tactical/Use of Force training.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Work in conjunction with the Lead, Tactical Training & Quality to revise, update and modify existing curriculum and programs as well as develop new curriculum, program training aids and delivery mediums as needed.
  • Develops and delivers additional training sessions, content, and techniques, as needed, to support regulatory initiatives and business enhancements to systems and processes.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree plus 5 years of related training experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to become an expert in HSS programs in order to effectively present various training courses and adapt them, as needed.
  • Prefer 2-4 years in a role that involved at least 40% of time as a Tactical Instructor.
  • Certification in Basic Firearms, Range Safety, and Handcuff Instructor, preferred.
  • Appropriate handgun instructor-level training qualification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Instructor certification in TASER Conducted Energy Weapons (CEWs) via Axon Enterprise preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to be tased when attending and/or leading training with any TASER device.
  • Ability to meet HSS' psychological standards to carry firearms.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Own or ability to obtain weapon that meets HSS standards to be used during training.
  • Excellent presentation and platform skills and up to date knowledge of contemporary training modalities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with diverse personalities while exercising tact and flexibility.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, exercise independent judgment, resourcefully innovate, recommend and lead effective courses of action.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, coordinate, implement and manage complex or multiple projects and tasks in a rapidly changing, fast paced environment in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Ability to evaluate skills, identify development opportunities and provide effective coaching.
  • Clear understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design, and principles of effective communication.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems.
  • Basic math skills that allows for general data gathering and reporting on findings.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet HSS driving requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time position. Work hours will vary depending on client schedules, project deadlines, and the needs of the company. Workweeks may exceed 40 hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Environment may be fast paced and stressful. Approximately 5-25% travel, local and domestic overnight travel may be required and may include one or more of the following: Day and/or Overnight, by plane and/or car.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend approximately 50% of the time sitting and will walk or stand 50% of the time; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; occasionally the employee will stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. The employee will be expected to participate in moderate athletic activities. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently engages in mental concentration, analysis, and formulation. Able to drive a vehicle.
